Swimming and Writing

I’ve been thinking about synchronized swimming – but it's now called artistic swimming. I watched as much as I could during the Summer Olympics. I was mesmerized by the precision of the swimmers and how artistic they were, all at the same time, doing the same thing, in a pool. And that got me thinking about writing. Writers are synchronized – we’re all doing the same thing, but we’re also artistic – we're all doing our own thing. We all have the same words available to us, but our word choices, the order we use, and more makes all the difference. It’s what makes us unique as writers – we each have our own voice.
